NAC Executive Chairman Kharel quits

KATHMANDU: Amidst concern about his efficiency for the slackness of the performance of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), its Executive Chairman Madan Kharel has tendered his resignation to Yogesh Bhattarai, the Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation on Sunday, a high-level source of the ministry says.

Kharel was appointed the Chairman of the Corporation in August 2018.

Although the prevalent provisions deem the secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation as the Executive Chairman of the corporation, Prime Minister K P Oli had appointed Kharel as the chairperson of the national flag carrier.

However, Kharel’s chemistry had not gone well with Yogesh Bhattarai who wanted the corporation to regain its vigor of decades before. Minister Bhattarai had been raising a question about the efficiency of Kharel as chairperson in the Corporation.

According to the sources, immediately after tendering resignation Kharel is planning to fly to Australia by Dragon Air on Sunday.
