Police seek arrest warrant for Astha Raut



KATHMANDU: Police have filed an application before District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu seeking an arrest warrant against famed Nepali singer Astha Raut.

SSP Uttam Raj Subedi, Chief of Metropolitan Police, Range, Kathmandu told Khabarhub they have asked the DAO to issue the warrant to investigate an ‘indecent behavior’ case filed against her.

The law enforcement agency is preparing to arrest the singer today following the issuance of the warrant. If found guilty, Raut could face one-year jail term or fine up to Rs 10,000 or both.

Police Constable Ramita Shrestha deployed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Security Office had filed a complaint against the singer at MPCO.

She had lodged the complaint saying that singer Raut showed an ‘indecent behavior’ to her during a security check at the airport on Wednesday.

In the complaint, she has demanded a maximum punishment as per existing laws.

Raut on Thursday had taken to social media to vent her ire on a policewoman on duty at the airport.

Talking to Khabarhub, Raut had said that the policewoman used ‘inappropriate’ words to her while she was passing through the security screening process at the airport.
