Banks mull closing all branches during Dashain holidays

NBA request all to use digital channel

KATHMANDU: The commercial banks are mulling over not to operate their branches this Dashain.

Unlike in previous years, commercial banks have preferred to operate digitally only during the Dashain holidays this year.

According to Bhuwan Dahal, the President of Nepal Bankers Association, citing the decreasing transactions through the offices and the explosive trend of the coronavirus pandemic, the banks have made up their mind to encourage digital banking rather than operating in person.

“As most of the customers are used to the digital transactions and ATM services, we have thought of operating digitally,” NBA president Dahal said, “The number of customers coming regularly to the bank is declining, we feel we can operate digitally.”

He informed that the NBA is trying to coordinate with Nepal Rastra Bank.

“Once we get formal consent from Nepal Rastra Bank, we will inform formally,” he said.
