NC Prez directs NC lawmakers to reject Dashain allowance

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress(NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has directed all NC lawmakers  not to take Dashain allowance and refund it if already taken.

Also the leader of NC’s parliamentary party, President Deuba has  directed NC Chief Whip Bal Krishna Khand to ensure that all NC lawmakers return the Dashain allowance.

The government has been widely criticized for distributing allowance to the lawmakers and high officials at a time the national economy is on the verge of collapse and people are dying of poverty.

At a time when many lawmakers have been talking about defying the allowance or using it in social work, main opposition party in the parliament has come out with a strong institutional decision of not taking the allowance at the time the country is fighting against the pandemic.

NC has won 61 seats in the House of Representatives. Two are suspended, hence only 59 are eligible for such allowances. There are six NC lawmakers in the National Assembly.
