IPL2020: Punjab defeats Mumbai in Super Over



KATHMANDU: Kings XI Punjab has defeated Mumbai Indians in Super Over in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Sunday night.

Held in Dubai International Stadium, the match  went for Super Over after Punjab notched up 176 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs while chasing the target of 177 runs  set by Mumbai.

Punjab which elected to bat first in Super Over scored five runs losing two wickets. In reply, Mumbai nothed up five runs  losing  one wicket, ending the match in draw.

The math went for Super Over once again in which Mumbai notched up 11 runs losing one wicket. In reply, chasing the 12-run target, Punjab scored 15 runs in five balls without losing a wicket.

Before the match went  for  Super Over,  Punjab’s captain KL Rahul top-scored with 77 runs including seven fours and three sixes off 51 balls. CH Gayle and N Pooran made equal 24 runs.

Mumbai’s JJ Bumrah and  RD Chahar grabbed three and two wickets each of Punjab.

Earlier, electing to bat first after losing the toss, Mumbai notched up 176 runs losing six wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Mumbai’s Q de Kock  top-socred with with 53 runs including three fours and three sixes off 43 balls. KH Pandya and KA Pollard  scored equal 34 runs.

In reply,  Punjab’s Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh took two wickets each of Mumbai.

With this loss to Punjab, Mumbai is in the second position with 12 points from nine matches and Punjab is in the sixth position with six points from nine matches.
