WHO chief urges world to ban consumption of wild meat

KATHMANDU: With a sharp rise in the number of infection cases of Coronavirus, the World Health Organization (WHO) has appealed to all the countries to put a ban on the trading and consumption of wild animals.

Chief of WHO Dr Tredos Adhanom has urged the countries to ban the trading of wildlife meat claiming that 70 percent of new virus has come through the consumption of wild animals.

Coronavirus that broke out in Wuhan City of China is suspected to have spread through the seafood. However, it is yet to be verified.

WHO had declared global health pandemic on January 30 after the deadly virus created mayhem wreaking havoc across the world.

Meanwhile, Dr Michel Yao, Emergency Operations Program Manager, WHO’s Regional Office for Africa, has warned that the number of infection cases might climb to 10 million in Africa in the three to six months.
