KATHMANDU: The government is chalking out plans to use some hotels of Kathmandu as quarantine centers, if the need arises, amid the fear of coronavirus spread.
It has informally proposed the Hotel Association Nepal (HAN), and the latter has consented to the government’s proposal considering the seriousness of the people’s health.
First Vice President of HAN, Vinayak Shah informed that they would be ready to offer service if the situation demands so while informing that they are yet to make a formal decision to this effect.
The government in the initial phase is working on the arrangements and preparations to make sure that coronavirus does not spread. According to Shah, the preparation to use hotel rooms as quarantine centers will come into effect only if the situation arises due to coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the HAN’s regional association Bharahawa has already offered to provide hotels to be used quarantines.
According to HAN, a standard hotel can quarantine around 6,500 people every day.
Concerned stakeholders are meeting on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
