KATHMANDU: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to maintain record on the migrant workers who have returned home from abroad with the loss of job in the wake of coronavirus pandemic.
NHRC Spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokhrel has urged all three layers of government to maintain the records by coordinating with the related organizations.
They are asked to be serious on the women who returned Nepal from foreign jobs being victims of domestic violence.
Similarly, documentation is essential on those sacked by the companies of destination countries and leaving the jobs without incentives.
The NHRC also made aware all private organizations working in this sector to carry out works by abiding by the principles of human rights protection.
The UN Convention on Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families, 1990 and ILO Covenant 189 should be followed strictly, according to the NHRC.
It also extended the best wishes to all migrant workers on the occasion of the International Migrants Day.
In this connection, NHRC held a discussion with its member in Malaysia on the protection of human rights of Nepali migrant workers there.
