MAHOTTARI: Snake menace has increased in the northern belt of Mahottari district after sunshine for few days following heavy rains.
As many as 40 snake bite cases were handled by the snakebite treatment center at Bardibas in the last one-month alone. Two people have died in the district after they were bitten by poisonous snakes over the last fortnight.
The snakebite treatment center at Gauridanda of Bardibas municipality-3 has been treating a large number of snakebite cases at present.
Forty people who had been bitten by snake have been treated in the last one-month alone.
In the latest incident of snakebite, eight people from Rajpur, Bhangaha municipality-5 were treated, said Krishna Devkota, the chairman of the snakebite treatment center management committee.
Sixteen people were bitten by snake on a single day at Bhangaha-5 last Friday. Of them, eight have gone to the snakebite treatment center run by the Nepali Army at Bandipur of Siraha for treatment.
Of the 40 people who were successfully treated for snakebite, 12 were bitten by cobra and krait snakes while the rest have been found to be bitten by viper, scorpion and centipede.
According to Devkota, 120 people visited the center on suspicion of snakebite in the last one-month alone.
It is said ward no. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 14 of Bardibas municipality are highly infested by snake. Similarly, snake infestation is also high in Gaushala, Aaurahi and Bhangaha areas of the district.
