Nepal reports 671 new cases in highest single-day spike

KATHMANDU: A total of 671 new cases have been confirmed in Nepal in the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Population stated on Thursday.

With this, total cases in Nepal have reached 7,848 in the highest single-day spike.

Among the newly-infected, 591 are males and 80 females, said Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam speaking at a regular press briefing this afternoon.

In a test conducted at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Biratnagar, two people from Jhapa and two people from Morang were found to be infected with the coronavirus.

Similarly, tests at the National Public Health Laboratory Teku confirmed infection in 42 people in Achham, 41 in Bajura, three in Bhaktapur, 84 in Dadeldhura, 21 in Kailali, 16 in Kapilvastu, two in Kathmandu, 25 in Baitadi, two in Nuwakot, 34 in Rautahat, three in Rupandehi, three in Sarlahi and three in Lalitpur and one each in Nawalparasi and Mahottari.

One woman from Sindhuli has also been found to be infected in the laboratory test of Teku Hospital.

A total of five people of Chitwan and one each from Nawalparasi East and Chitwan were confirmed to be infected in tests at the laboratory of Bharatpur Hospital.

Likewise, 29 people from Dhanusha, one from Baglung, one from Manang, 30 from East Nawalparasi, 9 from Syangja, 4 from Parbat, 15 from Tanahun and 11 from Gorkha have been infected in tests at the laboratory of Dhulikhel Hospital.

Tests at Provincial Public Health Laboratory in Rupandehi confirmed infection in three from Gulmi, one from Kapilvastu, six from Palpa, seven from Rupandehi, one from Rolpa, one from Nawalparasi and 97 people of Arghakhanchi.

In the laboratory test conducted at Bheri Hospital, three people from Banke, three from Bardiya, one each from Kailali and Dailekh have been found to have coronavirus infection.

Similarly, four people from Dang have been found infected with tests at Rapti Health Science Academy.

At the laboratory tests in Surkhet, 86 people from Dailekh and 34 people from Surkhet have been found infected with the coronavirus.

Two people from Achham, two from Bajhang, two from Kapilvastu, 20 from Kailali and five from Doti have been found infected with coronavirus in tests at the laboratory of Seti Hospital.

According to Spokesperson Dr. Gautam, the infection has been seen in 74 districts of the country so far.

Meanwhile, 19 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from different hospitals in the last 24 hours after recovering from the virus. With this 1,186 have been discharged across the country so far.

In the last 24 hours, 5,746 samples have been tested through PCR, said Spokesperson Dr. Gautam.

According to him, 155,518 samples were tested through the PCR and 243,075 through the RDT so far.

At present, 6,648 people are in isolation and 116,215 are in quarantines across the country.

Nepal’s death toll stands at 22.
