Sarlahi facing shortage of fertilizers

SARLAHI: Paddy plantation season has begun in Sirlahi district, yet it is facing a shortage of fertilizers.

Farmers have prepared nurseries for seedlings, but lack of fertilizers has made the matter worse, said locals.

Farmers said nurseries have not been good as there was no fertilizer while preparing nurseries.

The farmers would go to bordering Indian market to purchase fertilizers. However, they have not been able to reach the Indian market to purchase fertilizers due to lockdown, according to them.

Farmers have also complained that some traders have been running black marketing of fertilizers.

According to Bajra Mani Lama, chief of the Agriculture Materials Corporation Limited, Sarlahi, there is acute shortage of fertilizers in the district due to COVID-19.

Around 1,500 metric tons of diammonium phosphate and 2,000 metric tons of urea are needed for rice plantation in the district.

Currently, the Corporation has a stock of approximately 150 metric tons of DAP and two truck full urea, Lama said.
