Worldwide death toll of Nepalis from coronavirus reaches 96

KATHMANDU: A total of 96 Nepalis have died from the COVID-19 across the globe so far.

According to the data provided by Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), 63 Nepalis have died in the UK, 15 in the USA, nine in the UAE, two in Saudi Arabia and one each in Ireland, Japan, Turkey, the Netherlands, Bahrain, Sweden and Nepal due to coronavirus.

The health committee stated that among the deceased are 77 men and 19 women.

This week alone, 18 more people including Nepal have died due to the coronavirus. The number of deaths this week was 12 in the UK, three in the UAE, two in Saudi Arabia and one in Nepal, according to the health committee.

Similarly, 6,781 Nepalis have been infected by the pandemic virus in 30 countries, Chairman at Health Committee Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota stated.

According to the data compiled by a group of non-resident Nepali medical experts from around the world, non-resident Nepalis have died in 11 countries, while Nepalis in the remaining 19 countries have been infected with the coronavirus.

As per the record, 2,500 Nepalis in Qatar, 1,600 Nepalis in the USA, 1,221 in the UK, 311 in Bahrain, 200 in the UAE, 84 in Kuwait, 674 in Saudi Arabia, 49 in Malaysia, 29 in Portugal, 22 in Ireland, 13 in Spain and Canada, 12 in Australia, 10 each in Japan and the Maldives, six in Belgium, five in Switzerland, four each in Germany and Finland, three each in Cyprus and New Zealand, two each in Malta, Hong Kong and Poland one each in France and Myanmar have been infected.
