KATHMANDU: The airfare has been slashed by 50 percent after the number of tourists went down in the country due to coronavirus.

The number of foreigners visiting Nepal went down by 40 percent in the last two weeks, according to the Department of Immigration.

In the last 14 days, 33,783 foreigners came to visit Nepal via flights while 24,190 people returned home during the period.

Domestic airlines companies have reduced airfare by 50 percent in a bid to attract customers after the number of tourists went down by 90 percent after the coronavirus broke out in China, said the Department.

“The condition of airlines companies has been critical, of late. The industry was propped up by the foreigners in the past. We are now expecting help from the government,” an entrepreneur involved in the airlines business said.
