Suspension of Mahara as lawmaker lifted



KATHMANDU: Suspension of former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara as a lawmaker of the House of Representatives have been lifted after he was acquitted of an attempt to rape charge on Monday.

He will now receive perks and benefits of lawmaker which was put on hold following his arrest.

Mahara was suspended after he was arrested on a charge of raping an employee at Parliament Secretariat.

Mahara, who had resigned from the post of Speaker, however, had not quit as a lawmaker despite his party the ruling Nepal Communist Party directing him to relinquish both the posts.
