Siraha jail turns into COVID-19 hotspot as 500 jailbirds test positive for coronavirus

JANAKPURDHAM: Siraha prison has turned into a coronavirus pandemic hot-spot as around 500 inmates have tested positive for coronavirus as of Wednesday.

According to Babita Mahato, the Chief of Siraha District Jail, 259 inmates of the jail tested coronavirus positive on Wednesday.

She informed that the prison with a capacity of accommodating 150 people has been keeping 599 prisoners.

Taken her words, the jail is crammed 4 times more prisoners than its actual capacity.

Mahato informed that 500 jailbirds have tested coroanvirus positive there till date.

All the prisoners who have tested coronavirus positive are still in the prison.
