Modi highlights initiatives by Indian govt to fight COVID-19 in address to ECOSOC

NEW DELHI: Path to achieve ‘sustainable peace and sustainability is through multilateralism’, Indian PM Narendra Modi said in his speech at the high-level segment of the United Nations Economic and Social Council session (ECOSOC).

The session was attended by Prime Minister of Norway and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

In his 15-minute address around the theme ‘multilateralism’, Modi highlighted various initiatives by the Indian government to fight COVID-19 and towards ensuring an all-inclusive development, Indian media reported.

“We are supporting other developing countries in meeting their Sustainable Development Goals (SDG),” he told the virtual meeting.

He added that India has always taken pride in being the first responder in the region “as a friend in need”.

Be it in times of earthquakes or any natural or man-made crisis, India has responded with speed and solidarity, he said.
