Agitating teachers knock on NRHC’s door over unpaid salaries

Claim they have not been paid for over 6 months

KATHMANDU: Institutional School’s Teachers Union (ISTU) has filed a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) requesting it for facilitation to help them get the due salary back from schools.

They knocked the door of the constitutional human rights body after Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and National Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (N-PABSON), the umbrella organizations of private school operators decided to stall the online classes and send the teachers to leave without payment till indefinite period.

Writing a letter to NHRC, ISTU has claimed that PABSON and N-PABSON’s decision to shut down the school’s till indefinite time and send more than 250 thousand teachers at leave without payment, has aggravated the already ailing teachers and staffs working in institutional schools.

“The teachers who have not got the salary since December 1919, are further struck by PABSON and N-PABSON’s decision to halt online classes and dismiss teachers on leave without pay status,” ISTU’s letter signed by Hom Bahadur Thapa, the president of ISTU.

ISTU has claimed that the decision is not only impractical and inhumane but also against the prevalent labor and other laws and regulations.

ISTU has also asked NHRC to pressurize the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the regulating authority so that the latter can work more responsibly on behalf of teachers.
