Govt reduces electricity tariff, trunk line service cancelled

KATHMANDU: The government has reduced the tariff of electricity effective from the month of Ashad (June-July).

As per the recommendation of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), the Electricity Regulatory Commission has reduced the electricity tariff to be effective from Ashad 1, i.e. from June 15 onwards.

The meeting of the Board of Directors of the NEA held on June 15 has approved the recommendation of the regulatory commission and reduced the tariff and repealed the provision of Trunk Line and Dedicated Line.

The NEA had provided electricity industrial sector through different line during load-shedding periods. For this special service, the NEA used to collect extra tariff from industrial sector.

It has also categorized its customers into 13 categories and offered the discount to them. It claims that the tariff is deducted by 10% in average.

According to the NEA, the customers who use 5 Amp meter and and consume up to 10 units per month has to pay only 30 rupees. The customers who consume from 11 unit to 20 units per month from Single phase meter have to pay 3 rupees per unit and 30 rupees as demand tariff.

Similarly, the customers who consume 21-30 units per month can get the service at 6 rupees per unit rate whereas they have to pay 50 rupees as demand cost.

The tariff for the customers consuming more 31-50 units per month have to pay slightly more than the above ones. They have to pay at 8 rupees/unit rate and provide 50 rupees as demand tariff.

Likewise, the consumers using the electricity between 51-100 have to pay Rs 75 as demand cost and Rs 9.5/unit as the energy cost when those consuming 101-150 unit per month have to pay Rs 100 as demand cost and Rs 9.5/unit as the energy cost.

According to NEA, the demand and energy cost for 151-250 units and 251- 400 units is Rs 125 and Rs 10 and Rs 150 and Rs 11 per unit per month respectively.

The customers using more than 400 units per month have to pay Rs 150 as demand tariff and Rs 12/unit as energy cost per month.

NEA has fixed different tariffs for the consumers using 15 ampere, 30 ampere and 60 ampere power line.
