Nepal reports first death from coronavirus



KATHMANDU: Nepal has confirmed the first death from coronavirus on Saturday.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, a post-natal mother died while being taken to Dhulikhel Hospital on Thursday.

Her swab sample was tested at the hospital and reconfirmed at the Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory.

According to Health Ministry’s Joint Spokesperson Dr. Samir Kumar Adhikari, the 29-year-old woman had been admitted to Kathmandu based Teaching Hospital on May 5 for childbirth and was discharged on May 7 after a normal delivery.

The woman had returned to her home in Sindhupalchowk after the delivery where she developed the symptoms like high fever and respiratory hazards.

Dhulikhel Hospital has been sealed after the death of the woman. The doctors involved in her treatment have also been kept in isolation and corona tests have been started

Earlier, the Ministry had sent a team of medical experts to Dhulikhel Hospital to find out the cause of death of the woman

Meanwhile, three wards of Sindhuplachowk have been sealed following the death.

District Disaster Management Committee Sindhupalchok has decided to seal Ward No. 9 Ramche of Barhabise Municipality and wards 7 and 8 of Balefi Rural Municipality, said District Coordinating Committee Chief Krishna Gopal Tamang.

It has been decided in the meeting of the committee to request Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army to seal off the wards.

Barhabise Primary Health Center has also been sealed after the woman had gone to the health center for treatment.
