KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress (NC) has asked the government to import medical supplies and expand the ambit of testing for COVID-19 in the country.

NC spokesperson Biswa Prakash Sharma has asked the government to not delay any further in making arrangement of medical supplies as the number of Coronavirus infected continues to rise in the country.

The party has also welcomed the increasing number of testing centers for coronavirus and called for expansion of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method, as the Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) was found to be not reliable across the world.

Referring to the Sun City Apartment case, where two persons tested positive 28 days after arriving in Nepal, the party has expressed concern over the arrival of around 200,000 Nepalis until the week before the lockdown in the country began.

As only 15 per cent of them are in quarantine there is a need to immediately begin a mobile testing camp in the villages, where most of the foreign returnees are at present.

The statement also calls for stringent measures to check unauthorized infiltration of people from across the border with India.
