COVID-19 death toll climbs to 6,515 across world

KATHMANDU: With the coronavirus continuing its march across the world, the death toll from the new virus has reached 6, 515 as of Monday morning.

A total of 159,415 people have been infected with the COVID-19 as it has already spread to 157 countries, according to international news agency AFP.

China has recorded the highest death toll with 3,213, followed by Italy with 1,809 deaths according to the record maintained by the World Health Organization (WHO).

As many as 368 people died in the last 24 hours in Italy with 3,590 new coronavirus infection cases, taking the total cases to 24, 747, Italian officials said.

Similarly, the death toll from the new virus in Spain has reached 292 after the country recorded 96 new deaths in the last 24 hours.

The total of new virus infection cases in Spain has reached 7,845, with 1,454 new cases.

Meanwhile, Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s wife Begona Gomez has tested positive for coronavirus.
