CC meeting taking place amidst NCP row even today

KATHMANDU: A meeting of the Constitutional Council (CC) is taking place even today.

The CC meeting which was convened on Tuesday evening briefly discussed the appointments of office-bearers to the vacant posts in the constitutional bodies.

Today’s meeting will give a final touch to the discussion, said Baluwatar sources.

Since the quorum was not present in Tuesday’s meeting, Prime Minister Oli recommended an ordinance on CC meeting for the President. President Bidhya Devi Bhandari endorsed the ordinance.

As per the issued ordinance, Prime Minister, who chairs the CC, can take decisions on the appointments of office bearers in the presence of three members including the Prime Minister.

PM Oli, Chief Justice Cholendra Shamsher Rana and National Assembly Chairman Ganesh Timilsina were present in the meeting yesterday evening.

Earlier, five members including the PM had to be present for a quorum in the CC meeting as per the constitutional provision.

PM Oli has  been under fire after the government introduced the ordinace haphazardly. As many as 46 posts are lying vacant in the constitutional bodies for long.
