Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll reaches 104 after woman dies in Dharan

DHARAN: A woman from Biratnagar died of the coronavirus while undergoing treatment at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS) on Saturday night.

A 50-year-old woman who was referred from Neuro Hospital in Biratnagar died at around 12 midnight, said Spokesperson at BPKIHS Dinesh Sapkota.

The woman was admitted to the COVID Hospital of the institute at around 11 pm last night.

The woman was referred to the institute after she had been suffering from high fever and coughs for four-five days and also had serious respiratory problems.

With the death, Nepal’s death toll from the pandemic has reached 104. However, the Ministry of Health and Population is yet to confirm the death officially.

COVID-19 hotspot Birgunj had reported another death from the pandemic on Saturday taking Nepal’s death toll to 103.

According to Coordinator of Narayani Hospital Dr. Uday Narayan Singh, a 47-year-old man from Atharaha in Birgunj had succumbed to the coronavirus while being taken to hospital.

Dr. Singh had stated that the doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead, adding that his swab sample was collected and the result came positive for the coronavirus.

A total of 10 people have died of the coronavirus in Province 1, 45 in Province 2 and 18 in Bagmati Province, six in Gandaki Province, 13 in Province 5, four in Karnali Province and eight in Sudurpaschim Province so far.

Nepal’s death toll from the coronavirus had reached 102 Saturday afternoon after three deaths reported in the last 24 hours.

Speaking at a regular press briefing, Spokesperson at the Ministry Dr. Jageshwor Gautam had said that one each from Kapilvastu, Parsa and Dhanusha have died of the coronavirus.

Nepal confirmed 468 new cases in the last 24 hours that took the national tally to 26,019.
