Saune Sankranti being observed across country

KATHMANDU: Saune Sankranti is being celebrated by worshipping god Shiva across the country on Thursday.

People, especially farmers, observe this festival by blowing a conch, hitting Nanglo, ringing bells as per tradition.

There is a tradition that women put on green bangles and saris  and pay homage to god Shiva to celebrate the festival.

There is also a belief that the celebration of Saune Sankranti will help drive away scabies.

Devotees flock to Shiva temples especially Pashupatinath Temple throughout the Nepali month of Shrawan.  The month Shrawan is regarded as the special month for worshipping Shiva while Monday is considered the day of god Shiva.

Most of the people are celebrating Saune Sankranti in their respective houses this year due to inconveniences caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
