Business community discusses to address problems



KATHMANDU: Business community in the country has initiated conversations to explore ways out to protect the private sector and address other issues of related workers as the novel coronavirus spread is on the rise.

Speaking at a virtual discussion assisted by internet technology and organized by the Society of Economic Journalists (SEJON), on Wednesday, participants stressed that the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) — being an umbrella organization of private sectors — should take the lead.

They said that the payment issue of the workers should be decided under its leadership.

According to them, the whole industrial sector has remained closed due to lockdown while expressing the uncertainty over the length and impact on tourism, remittance, import-export business, among other sectors.

President of Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Satish Kumar More said that the final decision in regard with the payment of workers will be taken in a week after discussions with the concerned stakeholders.

The participants also discussed ways out for protecting small-scale industries, and businesses being operated on bank loans through the consequences of COVID-19 crisis.

Representatives of FNCCI, Nepal Chamber of Commerce, CNI, Nepal Associations of Travel Agents, and Hotel Association of Nepal participated in the discussion.
