KATHMANDU: The Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD) has intensified the monitoring of public transport in Kathmandu Valley.
It has expedited the monitoring and action on vehicles ferrying passengers more than seating capacity and cabs refusing to go on meter and declining to carry passengers.
A unique checkpoint has been set at major routes and 44 buses and 66 taxis charging higher fares have been cracked down on.
MTPD Chief Senior Superintendent of Police Bhim Prasad Dhakal said that action has been taken as per the special plan for the festival by deploying traffic police in plain clothes.
He said that the bus park and the main crowded intersection of the Kathmandu Valley have been checked for non-compliance with the health standards and the passengers have been monitored for overcharging.
