Additional charge to be levied on ATM withdrawal from other banks

KATHMANDU: The country’s banks have decided to levy additional charges on inter-banking transactions including withdrawal from ATMs, online banking and uses of credit cards.

Chairman of the Bankers’ Association, Bhuvan Dahal said that the banks could take charges on inter-banking transaction as the authority has handed the decision to the respective banks.

“We have not made a decision on whether to charge or not. Instead, we have entrusted the decision to the banks itself,” Chairman Dahal said adding, “It is up to the banks whether to accept it or not.”

The Nepal Bankers Association Development Bank Association and the Nepal Financial Institutions Association issued a statement on Wednesday stating that the decision on whether to charge fees has been handed over to the concerned banks and financial institutions.

But since the decision is left to the bank’s own discretion, not all banks may charge extra fees.

Earlier, all the banks had been offering additional fee waiver on interbank transactions after the lockdown imposed in the country.
