Home Ministry Report: Ward Chair named as main perpetrator of Rukum incident



KATHMANDU: The probe committee formed by the Home Ministry over the Rukum mass murder incident has named the guilty and recommended action as per the law against them.

The committee has demanded action for murder offense against 20 individuals including Ward chairman of Chaurjahari municipality-8 Damber Bahadur Malla, Binod Malla, Resham Malla,  Dilli Malla, Prem Bahadur Thakuri found guilty in the comprehensive probe carried out by Nepal Police.

According to the committee report, one of the defendants Indra Bahadur Malla played accomplice to the crime by not informing the concerned authority about it while Binod Malla, Resham Malla and others chased Nawaraj BK and other youths and physically assaulted him.

Likewise, Tul Bahadur Malla, Dipendra Chand, Ramit Pun Magar and Nabin Kumar GM helped in taking the youth under control before they were beaten up.

They have also been sought action as per the Racial Discrimination and Untouchability (Crime and Punishment) Act, 2068. Ward chair Malla has been found to have instigated the villagers to take the youths under control arguing that they had defied the lockdown.

The youths who had already reached four kilometers away were chased and hit with stones and wooden stick, leading to their death.

Five of the accused are still at large and an arrest warrant has been issued against them.

Six youths including Nawaraj BK of Bheri municipality-4 in Jajarkot were killed in the incident that took place at Soti in Chaujahari municipality-8, Rukum on May 23.

Home Ministry assistant spokesperson Umakant Adhikari issued a statement today noting that prosecution had already been initiated against the accused while a process has been initiated to provide justice to the victims and their families.
