SURKHET: The Karnali State has marked the beginning of a campaign for food security in the State with the purpose to cultivate agricultural productions.
Chief Minister of Karnali State Mahendra Bahadur Shahi inaugurated the campaign by plowing a field with a tractor in front of Internal Affairs and Law Ministry in Surkhet.
Long bean and maize have been sowed in the farm plot that the Chief Minister plowed.
On the occasion, Chief Minister Shahi argued that Karnali State witnessed massive down in agricultural productions with increased reliance on imported food items following the construction of roads and establishment of different NGOs in the recent times.
The State government started the new campaign to lay emphasis for agricultural output to regain the lost position, he added.
He was of the view that agricultural output can be upped even without the use of modern technology and machine and agricultural tools.
On the occasion, the CM said that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year would be focused on production and employment creation.
Though the previous budget was focused on developing infrastructure, the budget for upcoming year would stress on production increase, he added.
Also speaking at the programme, Land Management, Agriculture and Cooperatives Minister Bimala KC said that Karnali State has the dearth of 35,000 metric tonnes of food grains. “We have applied the land use policy to increase the production and fulfill the crisis,” she added.
