Coronavirus death toll reaches nearly 300,000 globally with over 4.4 mln infected

KATHMANDU: With Coronavirus pandemic wreaking havoc across the world, the death toll from the novel virus has climbed to 297, 694 after 5, 243 died in the last 24 hours.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, with 86, 713 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to   4,424,150 as of Thursday morning.

Currently, 2,471, 538 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across the world, of which 45, 929 are critical. Meanwhile, 1,694,918 have recovered after treatment.

America, the worst-hit in terms of both deaths and infection cases, has reported 1,729 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the total to 85, 154.

According to the latest figures collated by Worldometer, with 20, 448 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 1,408,155 as of Thursday morning.

Currently, 1,036, 335 coronavirus patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals across America, of which 16,349 are critical.  Meanwhile, 307, 895 have recovered after treatment.

New York is the worst-hit with 27, 289 deaths followed by New Jersey and Massachusetts with 9,727 and 5,315 deaths, respectively.

The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) had declared Coronavirus a Public Health Emergency on January 31 in the US.

Italy has reported 195 deaths in the last 24 hours taking the tally to 31,106 as of Thurday morning.

The number of infection cases in the country has reached 222, 104 after 888 new cases were reported.

Currently, 78,457 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 893 are critical. Meanwhile, 112,541 have recovered after treatment.

Spain has the second highest number of infection cases with 271,095 after the United States of America (USA).

The country reported 1,575 infection cases, 184 deaths in the last 24 hours. A total of 27, 104 have died from the novel virus as of Thursday morning.

Currently, 60, 764 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1,534 are critical.

Meanwhile, 183, 227 have recovered after treatment.

The death toll in the United Kingdom (UK) from Coronavirus pandemic has reached 33, 186 after 494 died in the last 24 hours.

According to Worldometer, with 3, 242 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 229, 705 as of Thursday morning.

Currently, 196, 175 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 1, 559 are critical.   UK has performed tests on 2,094,209 people so far.

Similarly, Brazil has witnessed a surge in the deaths of people from Coronavirus of late. According to Worldometer, the death toll has reached 13,158 after 754 died in the last 24 hours.

With 11,555 new cases, the number of infection cases has surged to 189, 157 as of Thursday morning.

Currently, 97, 575 people are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country, of which 8, 318 are critical. Meanwhile, 78, 424 have recovered after treatment.

Likewise, India has reported 2, 551 deaths after 136 died in the last 24 hours. With 3,763 new cases, the number of infection cases has reached 78, 055 as of Wednesday morning.

Currently, 49, 104 are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the country while 26, 400 have returned home after recovery. The India government has performed tests on 1,854,250 people for Coronavirus so far.

Broke out in Wuhan City of China last December, the deadly virus has spread to 213 countries including two international conveyances across the world.
