Nepal under pressure to evacuate 50,000 Nepalis from Gulf countries

KATHMANDU: Gulf countries are exerting pressure on the  Nepal government to take its around 50,000 citizens back home.

With the pressure, Nepal is facing tough time to evacuate such a large of number of Nepali migrant workers at one go.

Employment providing countries have been saying that they can no longer keep the jobless Nepali migrant workers since the companies where they were associated with have been shut down.

Pressure from Gulf countries are coming despite frequent telephonic talks Prime Minister KP Sharma held with his counterparts of the employment providing countries requesting the latter for the safety of Nepali migrant workers.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, thousands of Nepalis are in Gulf countries including Kuwait and the UAE. They have been piling pressure on the Nepal government to evacuate its citizens through the Nepali Embassy in their countries.

Following the pressure from the employment countries, Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi held a meeting with the representatives of Department of Foreign Employment and other concerned ministries on last Friday.
