NC General Secretary Koirala bats for Hindu state

BIRATNAGAR: General Secretary of Nepali Congress Dr Shashank Koirala has reiterated that the decision on whether to regard Nepal as a secular nation or a Hindu nation has to be decided through a referendum.

Speaking to reporters at his Biratnagar-based residence, General Secretary Koirala said that there is no chance of restoring monarchy in Nepal, yet the issue related with Hindu nation should be settled through a referendum.

Answering to a query related to the party’s general convention, he opined that the mega event of the party is most unlikely to be held in March.

He pointed out that as the issue of active membership of the party has not been settled yet, it’s unlikely the general convention will take place in March.

He informed that either he or Shekhar Koirala would vie for the post of party president in the forthcoming convention.

In the meantime, he added that there is no chance of collaborating with the communist party to make next government.
