NC holding nationwide protest against govt today

To demonstrate around 1 million people

KATHMANDU: The main opposition party, Nepal Congress (NC) is organizing nationwide demonstrations against the government today.

On the eve of the nationwide protest, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba appealed to one and all to participate in the demonstration while maintaining a physical distance.

Deuba also urged to make the demonstration grand, orderly and peaceful.

“Make the use of masks and physical distances mandatory during demonstrations being staged during the coronavirus pandemic,” Deuba has instructed the cadres.

Deuba said that the government has been focusing on corruption and authoritarian aspirations taking advantage of the responsible role of the main opposition.

“The government’s working style has spread disillusionment among the people,” Deuba said, “Therefore, NC has to move forward in a strong manner to address the people’s disappointment by putting intense pressure on the government from the streets to the parliament.”

Party President Sher Bahadur Deuba will address a protest rally in Hetauda, Senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel in Kathmandu and youth leader Gagan Thapa will address the demonstration in Kailali, said Spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma.

Similarly, Vice President Bimalendra Nidhi will address the demonstration in Bhaktapur, Treasurer Sita Devi Yadav in Lalitpur. Dr Shashanka Koirala will address the protest rally in Biratnagar, Deputy General Secretary Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat will address the rally in Jhapa and former Vice President Gopalman Shrestha will address the demonstration in Kavre.

Likewise, former Deputy General Secretary Prakash Man Singh will lead the rally in Dhanusha, Deputy General Secretary in Dhankuta, Dr Ram Sharan Mahat in Chitwan, Arjun Narasingh KC in Kaski, Chitra Lekha Yadav in Saptari, said Nepali Congress.

Leader Krishna Prasad Sitaula is in home isolation due to COVID-19.  According to a press note issued by the NC, it will demonstrate around 1 million people in the protest rally against the government today.
