KATHMANDU: Disgruntled leaders of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) have held a zoom meeting to team up against Prime Minister KP Oli, recently.
Five top NCP leaders took to zoom to escape being heard over the phone through Ncell and NTC SIM cards, according to a leader privy to the meeting.
If the leaders share their views over NTC and Ncell pones, their conversations get recorded and reach to the head of the government.
The zoom meeting which was held on last Sunday two days before the Secretariat meeting scheduled for (last) Tuesday to discuss the appointments of ambassadors and chief secretary. The conversation among the disgruntled leaders is quite intriguing.
In the meeting, NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said we should team up against any government activities that are against the party decision and interest. “I will take a step accordingly and expect your cooperation, accordingly,” said Dahal, adding, “He (Oli) can do nothing by taking away two-three people of ours.”
Dahal further said that they have a clear majority in Secretariat, Standing Committee and Central Committee.
Following tremendous efforts, a consensus was reached in the party resolving the intra-party feud, Prime Minister breached the deal by appointing ambassadors and the chief secretary without our consultation, complained Dahal.
Reacting to Dahal’s comments, senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal said, “I had doubt whether Oli would abide by party decisions.”
Senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal retorted, “I have known him very well. I have been betrayed by him for several times,” urging Dahal to call a meeting at the earliest. “We will finalize the issue in the meeting.”
Leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha and Vice Chairman Bamdev Gautam concurred with the three heavyweights.
In the meeting, all the leaders concluded that they could not do anything despite the majority in the party due to inconsistency of Gautam.
Meanwhile, Gautam justified his move arguing that the party would split if he had not played that role.
