Parliamentary committee submits probe report on West Rukum murder case



KATHMANDU: A special parliamentary committee formed to investigate the West Rukum incident has handed over its report to Speaker Agni Sapkota.

Coordinator of the committee Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Devendra Poudel handed over the investigation report to Speaker Sapkota on Monday.

The House of Representatives on June 8 had formed a nine-member parliamentary special committee under the coordination of Poudel to investigate the Chaurjahari incident in Rukum West district.

Some six youths of Jajarkot were killed when 21-year-old Nabaraj BK of Bheri municipality 4, Jajarkot went with 18 other friends to elope his girlfriend, 17, of Chaurjahari-8, Soti on May 23.

The Rukum District Court on June 24 had sent 23 persons including a ward chair to judicial custody on the charge of murder while two minors went to juvenile home as per the decision of the court.

They are accused of murdering six youths in the mass murder that took place in Soti of Chaurjahari municipality-8 on May 23.

Likewise, one of the accused was released on a bail of Rs. 100,000 while three were freed on a general date.

The district attorney had filed a case against 34 persons accused of involvement in the heinous act. Five people allegedly involved in the murder are still at large.
