Rukum incident: Police file case against 34 people  



KATHMANDU: Police have file case at the district court against 34 people for their alleged involvement in the killings of six youths of Jajarkot on May 23.

Six youths, including 21-year-old Nabaraj BK of Bheri municipality 4, Jajarkot, Ganesh Budha Magar, Sanju BK, Lokendra Sunar, Govinda Shahi of Bheri municipality, Jajarkot and Tikaram Nepali of Chaurjahari municipality-1, Rukum West were killed in the incident.

According to Sanjib Raj Regmi, Spokesperson at the Office of the Attorney General, the people, including ward chairperson Dambar Bahadur Malla have been charged with murder case.

Nabaraj, along with 18 other friends, were heading toward his 17-year-old girlfriend’s house in Chaurjahari-8, Soti on May 23 to elope her when locals, including the family of the girl thrashed and chased them away.

The youths had dived into the Thuli Bheri river to save their lives. However, six of them could not save their lives as the locals have been alleged of beating the youths to death.

The bodies have been recovered from the river.

The parliament has also formed a nine-member special parliamentary committee ‘Chaurjahari Municipality, Soti Incident Investigation Committee’ to investigate the incident.

The committee headed by a lawmaker of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Devendra Poudel has been formed and mandated to submit the report within a month.

The members of the committee are lawmakers Ekwal Mia, Durga Poudel, Parvati Bisunkhe, Bimala Bishwakarma, Maheshwar Jung Gahatraj, Meen Bishwakarma, Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav and Prakash Rasaili.
