Nepal’s COVID-19 hits 5,760 with 425 new cases

KATHMANDU: Nepal has reported 425 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, with the addition of the cases, total cases in Nepal have reached 5,760.

Speaking at a regular press briefing on Sunday, Spokesperson at the Ministry, Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said that among the newly-infected are 375 male and 50 female.

The new cases of COVID-19 were detected in Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Saptari, Birgunj, Parsa, Bara, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Nawalparasi (East), Bajhang, Dadeldhura, Doti, Kailali, Kanchanpur, Bardiya, Banke, Rukum (West), Pyuthan, Dang, Dhanusa, Ramechhap, Gulmi, Nawalparasi (West), Rupandehi, Palpa, Surkhet, Dailekh, Sindhuli and Dhading.

Likewise, 61 COVID-19 patients including six females and 55 males from Lalitpur, Rautahat, Birgunj, Dhran, Banke, Doti, Darchula and Dang have been discharged from various hospitals after recovering from the virus in the last 24 hours.

With this, as many as 974 COVID-19 patients, including 97 females and 877 males have been discharged from hospitals after recovery.

In the last 24 hours, 133,377 samples have been tested through PCR, said Spokesperson Dr. Gautam.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population, 309,914 samples have been tested for coronavirus in Nepal so far. Of these, 121,862 samples were tested through the PCR and 188,052 through the RDT.

At present, 4,767 people are in isolation and 143641 are in quarantines across the country.

Meanwhile, the Ministry also confirmed the death of a COVID-19 36-year-old patient in Gulmi who died while undergoing treatment on Saturday night.

The man from Dhurkot Rural Municipality was undergoing treatment in isolation of Resunga Municipality.

The man had been suffering from cancer for two years and his health condition had been critical for the past few days.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus has spread to 73 districts of the country.
