Bagmati State on top to contribute to country’s GDP

KATHMANDU: Bagmati State which includes the federal capital is the top contributor to the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country. The State has been able to contribute 35.85 percent of the total.

Releasing the data on the annual State-level products, the Central Bureau of Statistics shared that Bagmati State emerged strongly to prop up the GDP. It is estimated that the State will have the economy of Rs 1,350 billion. In the GDP of Rs 3,767 billion, Bagmati State’s economy size is nearly one-third.

Meanwhile, State-1 made the contribution of 15.82 percent, State-2 of 13.78 percent, Gandaki State of 8.9 percent, State-5 of 14.18, Sudurpaschim State of 7.21, and Karnali State of 4.27 percent.

However, the Bagmati State is estimated to have the lowest economic growth rate in the current fiscal year.

The economic growth rate is estimated to rotate around 1.3 percent, where State-1 will have 3.41, State-2 will have 2.28, Gandaki State will have 2.68, State-5 will have 2, and Karnali will have 3.56 percent. In the economic growth rate, Sudurpaschim State is estimated to have the strongest position with 4.08 percent.

The government had estimated the economic growth of the country at 8.5 percent in the beginning. But with the lockdown imposed nationwide post-COVID-19, most of the economic activities have been closed down, causing a severe dent to economic growth. RSS
