Two new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Nepal

14 Nepalis die, 675 infected in diaspora

KATHMANDU: Nepal has reported two new coronavirus cases on Monday. With this, the number of coronavirus positive cases in Nepal has reached 14.

A 65-year-old woman of Lamki Chuha Municipality-1, Bhuruwa Kailali and a 19-year-old youth in Rautahat have tested positive, according to the Ministry of Health and Population.

So far, Kailali has the highest number of COVID-19 patients with six while Parsa has three. Baglung and Kathmandu have equal two and one in Rautahat.

Speaking at a press briefing, Spokesperson Bikash Devkota said that the woman now undergoing treatment at Seti Zonal Hospital was found coronavirus positive in her swab test.

Earlier, the rapid diagnostic test had shown her report negative, but when the swab was sent to Kathmandu for a test, it was found positive.

The woman had a small business in Birgunj. She, along with 16 others, had returned home on March 22.

According to sources though she was hesitant to stay in quarantine in the beginning, after a request from all was living in quarantine.

The medics from Tikapur Hospital had collected swab of 44 people out of 51 in quarantine.

Meanwhile, a total of 14 Nepalis have died from the COVID-19 in the foreign land till date.

According to the data provided by Health Committee under the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), 8 Nepalis have died in the UK, 5 in the USA and one virus in the UAE due to coronavirus.

Similarly, 675 Non- Resident Nepalis have been infected by the pandemic virus, Chairman at Health Committee Dr. Sanjeev Sapkota claimed.

Among them, more than 500 Nepalis are infected in the USA and more than 100 in the UK.

Similarly, 18 in Spain, 4 in Germany, 22 in Portugal, 9 in Australia, 10 in the UAE, 4 in Saudi Arabia, 5 in Kuwait, 1 each in Japan, Malaysia and Hongkong are diagnosed positive for the virus.

NRNA is collecting the data from the other nations as well, it said.

NRNA has collected these data with the help of Nepal’s mission, branches of NRNA and local communities.

Likewise, NRNA has also started the helpline to assist the Nepalis living away from Nepal.
