KATHMANDU: The country’s per capita energy consumption has risen, thanks to the unhindered power supply coupled with publicity campaigns.
A half-yearly review report released by the Finance Ministry shows that the per capita power consumption has increased up to 267 units in the first six months of the current fiscal year. It is more by 22 units compared to the previous fiscal year.
The capacity of the industries has gone up with the regular power supply while the country’s economic growth rate is more than 6 percent for the past three consecutive years.
Similarly, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has forwarded the idea of promoting induction stove in every house and charging station to encourage the electric vehicles — both for increasing the power consumption in the country.
The NEA has prioritized strengthening, upgrading, and expansion of its capacity to endure the load for charging stations and induction stoves.
The government has set a target to provide electricity service in every household within 2022 and make per capita electricity consumption to 700 units within four years.
The Finance Ministry said that the electricity supplies have reached 4.681 million households till the first six months of the current fiscal year.
It said a total of 4.5 million households have been provided with energy supply within the last fiscal year as part of the government’s program to completely electrify 40 districts within this fiscal year. Syangja, Parbat, Kathmandu and Bhaktapur districts have been completely electrified so far.
