KATHMANDU: The meeting of the Constitutional Council convened by Prime Minister KP Oli for Sunday has been postponed.

The meeting was postponed due to the absence of Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba from the main opposition party.

The meeting called for 9 am today has been postponed, said Surya Thapa, Press Advisor to the Prime Minister. The meeting will be now held on Tuesday.

According to the Constitutional Council Act, at least five of the six members of the council must be present for the meeting. As the post of Deputy Speaker is vacant, the meeting cannot be held if any member of the council is absent.

Earlier on Saturday, Deuba had informed the Prime Minister that he will not be able to attend the meeting.

There are 46 vacancies in 11 constitutional bodies including the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority, Election Commission, and Women’s Commission.
