KATHMANDU: The much-anticipated Secretariat meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) held on Friday afternoon ended fixing the date for the next meeting.

A meeting of the Secretariat held at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar for only 40 minutes today set Wednesday as the day for the next meeting.

Meanwhile, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal alias Prachanda submitted a separate proposal at the Secretariat meeting.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Spokesperson Narayankaji Shrestha said that Chairman Prachanda had submitted the proposal.

He said, “The proposal submitted by the Executive Chairman Prachanda has been distributed to all the members of the Secretariat for study.”

However, the content of the proposal has not been disclosed.

Spokesperson Shrestha said that discussions were held on the letter submitted by five Secretariat members including Executive Chairman Prachanda to PM KP Oli demanding to summon a meeting.

Discussions were also held on a reply by PM Oli regarding the call to summon the meeting, Shrestha said.

In addition, the meeting has also decided to move ahead with the discussions by making an agenda for resolving the problems seen in the party so far, he added.

The agenda will include the appointment of ambassadors, reshuffling of the Council of Ministers, Karnali dispute, a visit by RAW Chief, Parsa incident, and coronavirus pandemic.

The meeting was held today after five top-notch leaders including Prachanda piled pressure on PM Oli to convene the meeting.

Prachanda had been urging Prime Minister Oli to call party meetings to resolve the widening intra-party dispute.

The majority of Secretariat members had demanded the meetings after Oli warned that he would split the party if the meetings were convened without consensus.

Prachanda-Nepal faction has been dissatisfied with Oli after the latter unilaterally recommended ambassadors, reformed cabinet, brought a no-confidence motion against the chief minister of Karnali Province, and held a meeting with the chief of the Research and Analysis Wing, the foreign intelligence agency of India.
