KATHMANDU: Tihar, also known as the festival of lights, begins with Dhanteras and Dhanvantri Puja being performed today.

Markets are decked up with decorative items, lights, candles, earthen lamps and other items ahead of the celebration.

The five-day long festivities of Tihar also known as Deepawali have begun on Friday.

Dhanteras is also being celebrated today. The Dhanteras festival is celebrated every year two days before Tihar.

People buy decorative items, ‘Diyos’ (earthen lamps), sweet delicacies, and gifts on this day.
