10 trauma units to be established in major highway hospitals



KATHMANDU: The government has made preparations to establish trauma units in the hospitals along the major highways in the country.

For this, the government has allocated five million rupees to every 10 hospitals along the highways.

According to the Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population Dr Jageshwor Gautam, different 14 hospitals in every seven states have begun providing free of cost health services to poor and needy people.  He further shared that Rs 140 million has been allocated to 14 hospitals for the purpose.

Preparations to operate integrated ambulances services were also underway to ferry patients to the hospitals.   Similarly, Rs 90 million each has been sent to Koshi, Narayani and Bharatpur Hospitals and Pokhara Institute of Health Sciences to set up emergency units in the hospitals.

 Dr. Gautam further added that the orientation program has been conducted in each state to meet minimum health standards aimed at enhancing quality health access to all citizens.

Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers has decided to establish essential health authorities to monitor the hospitals and health institutions.

 He also said that some base papers were being drafted to classify hospitals, inspect laboratories, cosmetic surgery among other areas related to health and food sciences.

The government has released six billion rupees to establish primary hospitals in every 346 local levels.   Likewise, Rs 8.66 million has been allocated to upgrade 52 district hospitals to 50-bed hospitals.

Dr. Gautam further shared that Rs 10.35 million has been sent to upgrade then zonal and sub-regional hospitals to 200-bed hospitals.
