KATHMANDU: India has remarked that endorsement of the Constitutional Amendment Bill by the House of Representatives has violated an understanding to hold talks on outstanding boundary issues.
“We have noted that the House of Representatives of Nepal has passed a constitution amendment bill for changing the map of Nepal to include parts of Indian territory. We have already made our position clear on this matter,” said Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava at India’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Saying that ‘artificial enlargement of claims’ is not based on historical fact or evidence and is not tenable, he added that it also violates a current understanding to hold talks on outstanding boundary issues.”
In a historic event, the House of Representatives unanimously endorsed the Constitution Amendment Bill on Saturday evening to make a change to the Coat of Arms as per the newly updated map of Nepal.
In the closed voting, 258 votes were cast in favor of the amendment bill and no vote against which is more than the two-thirds majority required for the endorsement.
