BHAKTAPUR: Some 24 trucks loaded with coal arrived at several brick kilns of Bhaktapur amid a nationwide lockdown.

The trucks were transporting coal and workers from India to the brick kilns of Changu Narayan municipality in Bhaktapur.

The trucks arrived on Friday and Saturday, according to Changu Narayan Mayor, Som Prasad Mishra.

Hum Kala Pandey, Chief District Officer of Bhaktapur, informed that the brick kiln proprietors claimed that the trucks carried essential raw materials for the brick kilns as per the government’s decision to resume industries.

The brick kilns operators are also allegedly flouting the standards set by the government and are allowing as many as 150 workers to work together.

Locals in the district are terrified to see so many trucks coming into their locality carrying coal and workers, Mayor Mishra said.

Meanwhile, Chair of ward no. 8 of the municipality, Parasar Sapkota stated that the brick kiln operators have neglected the fact that arrivals of so many trucks and workers from India at this crucial time could be risky.
