Coronavirus death toll in SAARC region climbs to 429



KATHMANDU: Coronavirus death toll has claimed to 429 in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region as of Sunday morning Over 13,000 have been infected.

According to the latest figures, 288 have died in India, 86 in Pakistan, 30 in Bangladesh, 18 in Afghanistan, and seven in Sri Lanka, taking the total death toll to 429 in the SAARC member states.

India

India is the worst-hit among SAARC member states. The death toll in India has reached 288 as of Sunday morning. India has reported a total of 8,446 cases so far. Currently, India has 7,189 active cases.

Pakistan

Pakistan, the second worst-hit in the SAARC region, has witnessed 86 deaths so far while 5,011 have been infected.

Bangladesh

The death toll in Bangladesh has climbed to 30 as of Sunday morning. The total number of infection cases has reached 482 in the country.

Afghanistan

Afghanistan has reported 18 deaths and 555 people have been infected as of Sunday morning.

Sri Lanka

The death toll in Sri Lanka has reached seven after one more. The number of infection cases has reached 198 in the country.

Nepal

Nepal has reported nine infection cases. The number of infection cases has reached nine after three more cases were reported on April 2. One among them has returned home after recovery. No one has died from the novel virus so far in the country.

Maldives

The number of infection cases has reached 19 in the Maldives. A total of 13 of them have returned home after treatment. No one has died from Coronavirus so far in the country.

Bhutan

Bhutan is the least affected country in the SAARC region. Bhutan has five infection cases. Two among those infected with the novel virus have returned home after treatment while the three are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.
