NEW DELHI: India has suspended all visas, barring a few categories such as employment and diplomatic till April 15 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

10 new cases have been reported in India taking the total number of patients in the country to 60.

However, health officials say that the number of confirmed cases may be up to 65.

As the infection continues to spread in the country, State and Union territories have taken a number of preventive measures, reports have said.

The government has also advised Indians to avoid all non-essential travel abroad.

Travelers have been requested to undergo ‘self-imposed quarantine’ for a period of 14 days from the date of their arrival.

Likewise, the Indian government asked companies to arrange ‘work from home’ facility as well for employees who had a history of traveling.

The decision to suspend visas was taken by a group of ministers in New Delhi held under the chairmanship of Health Minister Harsh Vardhan.

According to the decision, all existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/International organizations, employment and project visas, will stand suspended till 15th April 2020.
