KATHMANDU: Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokhrel has said the proposed Madan Bhandari University of Science and Technology would work as an academic institution to promote science and technology-based education.

Speaking during today’s discussions at a meeting of the parliamentary Education and Health Committee over the bill to establish the University, Minister Pokhrel said the University to be established at Chitlang of Makwanpur would be different than other existing universities in the country.

The university, he claimed, will be of advanced features and facilities so that it could compete with the world’s leading universities.

During the meeting, labeling the process to open the University as compatible with time, lawmakers advised the government to re-name it the Madan-Ashrit University.

Nepali Congress lawmaker Gagan Thapa asked the minister to clarify the nature of the University and its education system.

Lawmaker Khagaraj Adhikari said the University, which was meant for the promotion of technical education, should not include other subjects.
