CIB team in Kanchanpur to investigate Nirmala case

KATHMANDU: A team of Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police is carrying out investigation on the Nirmala rape-and-murder case in Kanchanpur.

The eight-member CIB team led by SP Pancha Kumar Bakhu reached the incident site few days ago to reinvestigate the high-profile case at the direction of newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shailesh Thapa.

Bhakhu had earlier too been involved in the investigation of the Nirmala case.

The team reached the incident site to carry out the job after IGP Thapa directed it to investigate the case from a new angle.

Police sources claimed that the investigation has reached near conclusion in the Nirmala case.

The team is looking into the case based on the statement provided by the victim’s mother, a video footage posted on the social networking sites and the site report of the incident, said a highly-placed source.

There have been criticisms arising from all quarters saying that the Nepal Police has not been able to find out culprit of Nirmala Panta even after two years.

Panta,13, had gone to her friend Roshani Bam’s house to complete her school homework on July 26, 2018.

The following day, her body was found in a sugarcane field located at the border of two wards in Bhimdatta.
